Individuals with disabilities often lack opportunities for social and recreational activities and chances to interact with their non-disabled peers. Thus, they are kept on the fringes of the community which can lead to isolation and physical or mental health problems.  SOAR was created to address this need in coastal Georgia.

“Well, I’m now a proud member of the SOAR Club doing all kinds of stuff such as bowling, picnics, arts and crafts, hiking, parties, fishing, sports, etc. Can’t wait for the next outing…looking forward to so many more ahead in this club.” — SOAR Club Member

Adult Enrichment Club

SOAR's Adult Enrichment program links adults with developmental disabilities (SOAR Club members) with community partners such as businesses, churches and civic clubs. SOAR collaborates with its community partners by co-sponsoring social and recreational activities for SOAR Club members. Activities include dances, parties, field trips, outdoor exploration, picnics and so much more. This program provides enriching and inclusive opportunities for SOAR Club members, and encourages community members to forge relationships with their neighbors with developmental disabilities.

Special Sports Support Program

SOAR employs an activities coordinator whose primary responsibility is to collaborate with Special Olympics Coastal Georgia to coordinate the Special Olympics program in Glynn and McIntosh Counties. This program serves 591 youth and adult athletes and provides year-round practices and opportunities to participate in local, regional and state games.

SOAR also hosts summer camps that focus on teaching biking and swimming to youth and adults.

Adult Health & Wellness Program

This program, facilitated by a recreational specialist, focuses on fitness and healthy living. Sessions center around thematic units that combine physical activities with cooking, art, music and dance.  Socialization and engagement are at the core of this program.
